Why Police Are Rattled By ‘No Gree For Anybody’
Nigerians have not stopped reacting to the Police’s warning against the use of the catchphrase, ‘No gree for anybody’, even after they explained the reason for the warning. In their statement, they described it as slang capable of causing crisis.
Here is a simple catchphrase which people are applying even in their spiritual lives; no gree for anybody, even the devil. It has entered the fashion industry. You need to see the gele (head tie) now trending. It’s wider than an umbrella. Many believe it’s simply about maintaining your beliefs; not allowing influence from others.
Netizens have been worried that the NPF is chasing shadows instead of intensifying efforts to stop bandits, terrorists, criminals and bad eggs in the police force.
So, rather than chasing the 2024 catchword users about, Nigerians are inviting the police to adopt it in their operations; No gree for any criminal, bandits, terrorists, etc. This is pop culture and the youths are bound to coin more. It’s left for the police to spin it around and use it positively in their service to the nation.
In their usual comic way, a Netizen said maybe they are afraid that transporters may adopt the slogan ‘no gree for any police’ and deny them the 200 naira they collect from them daily.
The sharp guys in the Defence Headquarters have adopted the catchphrase, ‘no gree for anybody’ by advising Nigerians not to tolerate terrorists and perpetrators of insecurity. They urged Nigerians to join hands to curtail terrorism. That’s a smart move. Rather than distract themselves with chasing already frustrated youths about, they are using the slogan positively.
Even Governor Sanwo Olu of Lagos State, caught the bug. Prior to the match played by the super eagles on Sunday, he tweeted, ‘… I am looking forward to their first match and the message to them was clear ‘no gree for anybody.’ Bring home the Nation’s Cup.” That’s revolutionary, right?
Wondering what’s revolutionary about the 2024 catchphrase, and questioning the police statement that they’ve gathered intelligence that the slogan can cause crisis, Dr Reuben Abati speaking on Arise TV programme, said, “The same Nigerian Police that could not gather intelligence when they were slaughtering people in Plateau state in three different local governments, is pursuing intelligence over popular slogan, ‘no gree for anybody’ saying this is coming from a revolutionary sector, this is a dangerous trend. No, Muyiwa Adejobi should not end there. He has to identify that revolutionary sector where it is located and share that intelligence.”
