‘It’s Private’; Gov Fubara Mum After Meeting Tinubu In Aso Rock
Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State has refused to disclose the purpose and outcome of his meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Thursday.
He told journalists that the meeting was private.
Vanguard reported earlier that President Tinubu was in a closed-door meeting with Governor Fubara at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The governor came out of the meeting at about 6:30 p.m. However, he declined entreaties to disclose the agenda and the outcome of the meeting.
He simply told journalists that “It was a private visit”.
Although the agenda of his visit was not made public, it may not be unconnected with the political crisis in Rivers State.
Essentially, the crisis is about control of the political structure of the state. This has pitched the governor against his estranged political godfather and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Governor Fubara arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 5:35 p.m. for the meeting with Tinubu. On arrival, he proceeded straight to the President’s office.
Meanwhile, the governor came alone to the meeting today.
This was unlike the last time he came to the State House with a delegation of his loyalists. It was during the peace meeting with the President over the clash with Wike.
Recall that President Tinubu had recently intervened in the political crisis between the governor and the FCT Minister.
After the President intervened, it emerged that Fubara signed an agreement.
He stirred the anger of many when a document emerged from the Aso Rock Villa that he signed. It was considered a highly lopsided peace accord brokered between him and Wike by President Tinubu.
Reacting to the outcry, Fubara said he was committed to ensuring peace in the state and among its people to foster development.
On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, while speaking at the 3rd Convocation and 6th Founders Day ceremonies of the PAMO University of Medical Sciences in Iriebe Town, Obio-Akpor, Local Government Area, of the state, he said “There is no price that will be too big to pay to ensure that peace prevails.”
The governor assured that he is prepared and will continue to pay the necessary price that will guarantee peace.(Vanguard)
