Shattering The House Of Lies (Part I) By Alli Ibraheem
I hail from the Oladunwo formerly called “Kúlendé Compound. The compound is popularly known for Oro worshipping. Oro is an object made with pointed bamboo and makes a strange noise while rolling. Females are forbidden from seeing it. The deity was brought by Odegbami’s wife. Odegbami was the founder of Oladunwo compound when he relocated from Erin Ile to Ileogbo. He was mandated by Oracle to accept worshipping the deity with his wife if he was to bear any child.
According to the old tales, Oro is usually celebrated at night because females are forbidden from seeing it. They cook porridge to mark the annual event. One day when they came to my grandpa’s house at midnight, I clandestinely positioned my sister to peep through the window. Alimot initially denied but later accepted when I promised her “Yondoro” meaning gift. Glaringly,we were watching the Oro with the strange noise. I was keenly observing my sister either to shout for help in case of necessity. Hold and behold, nothing has happened till date.
That was not my area of concentration. Since then, I summoned the courage to start asking questions so that I can proffer answers in case my children raise their voices. Equally, the fear instilled in us through Oro has been transferred to most sacred places. I feared going near palaces too. I’ve a strong belief that palaces are repositories of deities. In 2017, precisely February 14th, I had an appointment with a brother. Our rendezvous was Oluwo’s Palace. Before I visit any palace, I used to inform my confidants. Why? I do not trust any thrones then. Though, as a journalist, I had conducted interviews in three places before the time. The day marked commencement of my deep acquaintances with a Natural Paramount Ruler palace.
As a keen observer, I started monitoring. At a start, I maintained invulnerable distance while doing my job. I was not near and I was not far. I ensured I’m closer to Olodumare than before. Interestingly, working with the ancient palace of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwoland, endeared me to Olodumare more.
I was wondering in consonant with the popular belief of a king frankly discrediting secret societies and idol Worshipping. That was the beginning of a new era in Yorubaland. Oluwo, an unrepentant promoter of pure unadulterated monarchy has rejuvenated the pure system launched by Oduduwa by checkmating the lies incorporated into kingship by the succeeding haters of his blood who killed Okanbi, his only son.
