Accord Elders Give Adeleke Seven-Day Ultimatum To Back Gbenga Hashim
-Warn of Withdrawal of Political Support Ahead of Osun Governorship Election
Leaders and stakeholders of the Accord Party in Osun State have given Governor Ademola Adeleke a seven-day ultimatum to publicly declare support for the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, warning that failure to do so could result in the withdrawal of their political support for his re-election bid.
The resolution was reached at a meeting held on Monday, July 13, 2026, where party leaders and grassroots mobilisers from across the state resolved that Governor Adeleke must, on or before July 21, publicly align with the Accord Party’s presidential project or risk losing the backing of the group.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders were Alhaji Abass Olaniyi, Accord chieftain and political mobiliser from Ede North; Elder Timothy Ponle, political leader from Boripe Local Government; Hon. Mrs. Folasade Owojori of Ife East Local Government; and Hon. Mrs. Apeke Adewale of Oriade Local Government.
The stakeholders noted that many of them joined Governor Adeleke and Dr. Olawepo-Hashim in leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Accord Party, stressing that the party’s governorship and presidential ambitions should be pursued with equal commitment.
According to the group, it is inconsistent for any candidate seeking elective office on the Accord platform to distance themselves from the party’s presidential candidate.
They also called on Governor Adeleke to formally invite Dr. Olawepo-Hashim to Osun State within the next two weeks to kick off the party’s presidential campaign, describing the move as a demonstration of loyalty to the party’s national leadership.
“The Accord Party cannot be good enough for a governorship ambition and become irrelevant when it comes to its presidential candidate. Loyalty to the party must be complete and reciprocal,” the stakeholders said in a communiqué issued after the meeting.
The group warned that if the governor fails to meet the July 21 deadline, it would begin consultations with other governorship candidates ahead of the August 2026 governorship election.
“Our members are spread across all local government areas of Osun State. We have invested our structures, time and political capital in building the Accord Party. We cannot, in good conscience, mobilise our supporters for a governorship candidate who refuses to campaign for the party’s presidential candidate,” the statement added.
The stakeholders maintained that their position is aimed at strengthening party unity and ensuring that all candidates contesting on the Accord platform remain committed to its collective vision and national leadership.
They reaffirmed their support for the presidential aspiration of Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim and urged Accord members across Osun State to remain united as preparations continue for the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 presidential election.
