Terror Attack: Adeleke Urges Osun Residents To Report Suspicious Persons

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged residents to heighten vigilance and immediately report suspicious persons and movements to security agencies following reports of alleged plans by terrorists to attack places of worship and markets in parts of the state.

The governor’s appeal followed a security alert reportedly issued by the Department of State Services (DSS), prompting the state government to call for increased community vigilance and closer collaboration between residents and security agencies.

Adeleke, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Sunday, particularly urged residents in border communities to be cautious of unfamiliar persons and promptly alert the authorities to unusual activities.

He said, “We must provide the police and other security agencies with intelligence reports on noticeable threats in our communities.

“As we are aware of alleged plots to attack our places of worship, we must become extra vigilant. Report anything unusual without any delay.”

The governor commended the DSS for what he described as its proactive steps in drawing attention to the reported security threat, urging other security agencies to review the situation and strengthen measures to protect lives and property across the state.

Adeleke also disclosed that he would soon convene a meeting of the State Security Council to assess the security situation and review the effectiveness of existing response mechanisms.

He stressed the importance of community intelligence in preventing security breaches, saying residents have an important role to play by sharing timely information with the authorities.

“As residents of this state, we must collaborate with the security agencies through information sharing. Cooperation between communities and security authorities is essential,” the governor said.

Adeleke further advised residents to exercise caution in accommodating unfamiliar persons, while urging traditional rulers to convene meetings of their respective traditional councils to deliberate on the security alert and developments in their communities.

“We must nip in the bud the evil plans of enemies of public peace,” he added.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace-building efforts in the state following the 2026 governorship election, assuring residents that his government would continue to strengthen security measures to prevent terrorists and bandits from disrupting the peace of Osun.
