Just In: Emir Ajagungbade Killed In Ile-Ife Amid Motor Park Leadership Crisis
An aide to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, has reportedly been killed in Ile-Ife amid a lingering dispute over the leadership of motor parks in the ancient city.
Oyeyemi, who was also said to be a member of the Accord Party, was reportedly attacked while attending a meeting with some transport operators in Ile-Ife on Sunday.
According to reports, trouble started when some individuals allegedly invaded the venue of the meeting, leading to a violent confrontation.
Oyeyemi was reportedly attacked with stones during the incident and sustained injuries which resulted in his death at the scene.
Sources linked the incident to an ongoing disagreement between two factions over the leadership of motor parks in the area.
The development has heightened concerns over the activities of rival transport unions and the potential for further violence if the dispute is not urgently addressed.
The latest incident also comes amid heightened security concerns in Osun State, following a recent alert over alleged plans by terrorists to attack some public places, including religious centres and markets.
Governor Adeleke had earlier urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or persons to security agencies.
However, details surrounding Oyeyemi’s death remained sketchy as of press time, while the identity of those responsible for the reported attack had yet to be officially established.
Security agencies are expected to investigate the incident and determine the circumstances that led to the death of the governor’s aide.
Further details are expected as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
