Ile-Ife Shooting: Police Launch Probe, Warn Against Reprisal
The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade,” in Ile-Ife.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 13, 2026, around Energy Filling Station in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command said its attention was initially drawn to an accident at the location, prompting the deployment of police operatives to restore normalcy and secure the scene.
The Police said preliminary investigation subsequently revealed that Oyeyemi, also known as Emir Ajagungbade, had been shot.
According to the statement, the Command has commenced efforts to establish the immediate and remote causes of the shooting and identify those responsible for the incident.
The Police said all persons found culpable would be brought to justice, assuring residents that necessary investigative and operational measures were being deployed to get to the root of the matter.
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, condemned the shooting and appealed to individuals and groups not to take the law into their own hands.
He also warned against acts of reprisal, violence, destruction of property and other forms of criminality that could further escalate tension in the aftermath of the incident.
Zungura urged residents of Ile-Ife and other parts of the state to remain calm and law-abiding, while encouraging members of the public with useful information about the incident to cooperate with the Police.
The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property as well as maintaining peace and public order across the state.
He also expressed condolences to the immediate family and friends of Oyeyemi over the incident.
The Police Command urged members of the public to remain calm as the investigation continues.
