Tragedy has struck Agbarho community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State after a man allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life by ingesting a poisonous substance.

The incident reportedly occurred on Owiri Street, Agbarho, leaving the couple’s four children without their parents.

According to a source familiar with the incident, the man allegedly became angry over claims of infidelity against his wife and the alleged sale of his landed property.

A neighbour disclosed that the couple had reportedly been involved in repeated physical confrontations before the incident.

The development has thrown the family and residents of the community into mourning, particularly following the loss of both parents in the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

An elder brother of the deceased man, who spoke to Vanguard, expressed sadness over the incident but said he was not fully aware of the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.

He noted that disagreements could arise from different situations within families but did not provide further details about the immediate cause of the incident.

The deceased couple reportedly had four children, with their eldest son said to be about 21 years old. The man’s brother, however, declined to disclose the identities of the deceased couple.

A senior police officer attached to the Agbarho Division confirmed the incident, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The officer said the police had evacuated the bodies of the deceased couple to a mortuary as investigations into the circumstances surrounding their deaths continued.

He added that, as of the time of the report, neither family had lodged an official complaint with the police.

Efforts to reach the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, for further confirmation were unsuccessful as of press time.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain subject to police investigation.
