2027: Oriade/Obokun Needs Fresh Ideas , Says Olajengbesi’s Campaign Spokesperson
The spokesperson of the Pelumi Olajengbesi Campaign Organisation (POCO), Sodiq Lawal Chocomilo, has described the organisation’s candidate for Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, Hon. Pelumi Olajengbesi, as a man of integrity and unblemished character.
Chocomilo stated this on Thursday while appearing on Hard Punch, a flagship political programme on Afinju 90.7 FM, Osogbo, anchored by Boluwatife Ajayi.
He said Olajengbesi had, to his knowledge, maintained a clean record in both his public and private dealings, urging voters in the constituency to support candidates with competence, integrity and a commitment to service.
“Pelumi Olajengbesi has no criminal record, either civil or criminal. He is a saint, a complete saint. We need people who are not only competent, responsible and qualified but who also have the fear of God in their hearts and good character,” Chocomilo said.
Explaining his decision to serve as the campaign organisation’s spokesperson, Chocomilo said his involvement in the campaign was a continuation of his longstanding advocacy for the less privileged and effective representation.
“I have always identified with the poor, the disadvantaged and those who are struggling. I have always demanded efficient representation and quality delivery. I have always taken the side of the people,” he said.
He explained that his transition from activism and public criticism to partisan politics had not altered his commitment to the issues he had consistently advocated.
According to him, the major difference was that he was now seeking to implement through political participation some of the ideas he had previously promoted through the media and advocacy.
“The story has not changed. The tale is not different. The players and strategy are wholly different. Rather than criticising across social media platforms and going to radio and television stations to criticise, we are now ensuring that we put into practice all that we have been saying,” Chocomilo added.
The POCO spokesperson also called for a departure from what he described as the existing political approach in Oriade/Obokun, saying the constituency needed fresh ideas and new perspectives.
“We cannot continue doing the same thing the same way and expect a different result. Allow new people to test the water. Accommodate fresh ideas,” he said.
Chocomilo disclosed that he had known Olajengbesi for more than a decade, dating back to the latter’s days as a student union leader.
He said his long-standing relationship with the candidate had given him an opportunity to observe his character over the years, adding that political power should be entrusted to people whose character could withstand public scrutiny.
Quoting former United States First Lady Michelle Obama, he said, “Power does not corrupt. Power reveals true character.”
Chocomilo further highlighted what he described as Olajengbesi’s interventions in the Oriade/Obokun constituency, including sponsorship of youth education abroad, digital skills training, vocational training and assistance with employment opportunities.
He also listed support for young farmers and funding assistance for small businesses among initiatives he attributed to the candidate, saying such interventions demonstrated his commitment to youth empowerment and community development.
