2027: Obokun Stakeholders Endorse Olajengbesi for Reps Seat, Call for Change
Community leaders, youth groups and women representatives across the 10 wards of Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State have endorsed Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi as their preferred candidate for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced on Friday during a stakeholders’ gathering in Ibokun, the headquarters of Obokun Local Government Area, where participants expressed support for Olajengbesi and called for a change in the representation of the constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, a political leader in the area, Hon. Mayowa Adejorin, said the decision was informed by concerns over what he described as inadequate federal presence and the need for improved representation.
Adejorin lamented the state of infrastructure in the constituency, particularly the condition of roads and the alleged abandonment of some federal projects.
He also commended Olajengbesi for visiting communities across the constituency to assess their challenges, adding that the engagement had provided an opportunity to understand the development needs of the people.
Describing the aspirant as a young politician with fresh ideas, Adejorin said the stakeholders believed he could bring a different approach to legislative representation.
“We have adopted him as our son. We appreciate his efforts in identifying the challenges confronting our communities, and we believe he will give the constituency the attention it deserves,” he said.
Similarly, a women leader, Mrs Eniola Omotosho, called for increased attention to women’s economic empowerment, particularly support for small-scale traders and business owners.
Omotosho argued that women in the constituency needed more opportunities and institutional support to improve their businesses and livelihoods.
According to her, Olajengbesi’s reported interventions in support of women and small-scale entrepreneurs influenced the stakeholders’ decision to endorse him.
“Pelumi has demonstrated interest in empowering women even before the election period. We have seen and heard about his support for small traders, particularly women. We want a representative who will sustain such interventions and create more opportunities for our people,” she said.
Also speaking, a civil society leader, Comrade Ajayi Dotun, expressed concern over what he described as the prolonged political representation of the constituency without commensurate youth development opportunities.
Dotun, who recalled that the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Wole Oke, had represented the constituency for several years, said the time had come for younger people to have greater participation in political leadership.
“Hon. Wole Oke has been in the House of Representatives since I was in Junior Secondary School. I have graduated, got married and now have children, yet the representation has remained the same. We believe it is time to give younger people an opportunity to contribute to the development of the constituency,” he said.
Responding, Olajengbesi thanked the stakeholders for the endorsement, describing it as a responsibility that went beyond his personal political ambition.
He pledged to prioritise youth empowerment, women’s inclusion, community development and effective legislative representation if elected.
“This endorsement is not just about me; it is about the future of our children. It represents a call to rescue, restore and reset Obokun/Oriade,” he said.
Olajengbesi added that he would maintain close contact with his constituents rather than operate from Abuja without regular engagement with the people.
“I will not be an Abuja-based representative. I will remain connected to the people and ensure that their concerns are reflected in my legislative responsibilities. This endorsement will forever remain in my heart,” he stated.
The aspirant also presented aspects of his proposed agenda, which he said would focus on youth development, women’s economic inclusion and effective representation at the National Assembly.
