Akinremi Semiu, one of the suspects earlier paraded by the Osun State chapter of the Amotekun Corps over the alleged theft of cable wires valued at ₦5.6 million, has confessed that he resorted to robbery in order to settle his wife’s hospital bills.

Speaking with journalists following the parade, the 28-year-old admitted to the crime, explaining that his wife was hospitalized after being attacked by unknown men and that he lacked the financial means to pay for her treatment.

“I engaged in robbery to sort my wife’s hospital bills,” he said.

Semiu, an ex-covict was arrested on April 17, 2025, alongside an accomplice who later fled, claimed he turned to crime after being banned from selling alcohol and cigarettes in his community.

“I was banned from selling alcohol and cigarettes, and therefore saw robbery as an alternative source of income,” he added.

As earlier reported, four other suspects were also paraded alongside Semiu. They include 26-year-old Saheed Babatunde, who was arrested over the theft of iron steel, and three others, Idowu Tajudeen (27), Bamanga Joffrey (24), and Femi Adeniyi (22), who were apprehended in connection with burglary and theft at GRA, Osogbo.

The Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State, Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, reaffirmed that all suspects will be prosecuted accordingly. He called on residents to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies.

“The peace and safety of Osun State is a shared responsibility,” Omoyele stated.
