2027: S’West Groups Task Tinubu On Governance, Demand Continuity Of Reforms

By Ayobami Agboola, Osogbo
Civil society organizations and political groups in the Southwest have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sustain his ongoing reforms and ensure tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians, as conversations around his potential second term intensify.
At a summit held, in Osogbo, the Yoruba Patriots’ Movement (YPM) and a coalition of Southwest civic groups acknowledged the administration’s strides in economic reforms and infrastructure development but emphasized that citizens are more concerned about visible results than political slogans.
The event, themed “Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda: Life More Abundant for All Nigerians Regardless of Creed, Tribe, or Tongue,” served as a platform for stakeholders to review the administration’s performance and set expectations for the future.
YPM National Coordinator, Barrister Oladosu Oladipo, noted that while Tinubu’s leadership has demonstrated commitment through policy reforms, citizens are eager for peace, security, and economic stability to reflect in their daily lives.
“Beyond endorsements, Nigerians want results. The fight against insecurity must be won, farmers must return to their lands without fear, and economic relief must reach the grassroots,” Oladipo said.
He added that the success of Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” depends on collaboration between federal, state, and local governments, warning against political distractions.
One of the discussants at the summit, Senator Babajide Omoworare, stressed that the foundation for a “new Nigeria” has been laid but continuity and effective implementation at all levels of government are crucial.
“It’s not enough for the federal government to perform if states and local governments fail their people. Citizens must demand accountability from every tier. If states are underperforming, they should be voted out,” he asserted.
Omoworare also highlighted key achievements such as the payment of the IMF loan, progress in power sector reforms, and steps toward local government autonomy, but cautioned that the impact must be felt by ordinary Nigerians.
“President Tinubu’s style of governance is to plan and have a strategy run with it, even when people hasten him, he will play by the script like we all saw in Lagos because at the end of the day we will all saw the result. Nigerians will reap what the benefits.
“A lot of things will be achieve in the next two years but Tinubu is methodically about it. Things will still change for better.
“What Tinubu has done well is the regional development commissions, if we have almost N250bn in a year in southwest and we have almost N2trillion for the development commissions, so it is bridging the gap between the state and federal government”
The Ile-ife born politician used the avenue to charge the governor of Osun State to use the fat federal allocation judiciously, saying with the huge allocation and reforms of Tinubu, if any state governor fails to perform, he should be voted out.
The APC gubernatorial aspirant said with the corporation of members of the party, he’s confident of dislodging Governor Ademola Adeleke come 2026.
