Private Sector Involvement: Osun Govt Inaugurates Board Of Governors In Public Secondary Schools/Technical Colleges

-Says Government Can’t Do It Alone

Osun State Government has inaugurated Board of Governors and Safe School Initiative in public secondary schools and technical colleges across the State.
This is in a bid to have a strong collaborative effort between the private and government stakeholders in the education sector for effective teaching and learning.
The move is a partnership between the Ministry of Education and the State Senior Secondary Education Board( SSESEB).
In his speech at event, the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole said the government cannot do the enormous task on education alone but through the collaborative efforts of the new board.
The commissioner while emphasizing on the involvement of community in education said it has been considered as an essential component of students’ academic success.
While highlighting the bold steps taken by the state government to repositioning the state secondary and technical education he said the state has ” constructed blocks of classrooms across the state, renovated science laboratories, provision of instructional materials, prompt payment of salaries among others.
He assured that guidance and counselling will soon be reintroduced into the school system in Osun State as means of guiding young learners into the future.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Murtala Jimoh said Osun state is now aligning with the federal government policy on education, hence the need for the inauguration of the Board of Governors and safe school initiatives.
He said in order to give the students a better future, there is the need for all stakeholders to come together to help reshape and revamp the education sector.
In her welcome address, the Executive Secretary, Senior Secondary Education Board Mrs. Hannah Kolawole said the newly inaugurated Chairman, Board of Governors are entrusted with the responsibility of strategic planning, policy formulation and effective implementation that will improve the quality of education in the state.
She noted that they are to ensure that schools uphold the highest academic and moral standards, promote discipline and foster an environment where students will thrive well.
She further urged the board members to work closely with school administrators, teachers, parents and the government to help put Osun education sector on the world map.
While speaking on behalf of the BOGs and safe schools initiative, the Orangun of Oke ila, Oba Abolarin Adedokun appreciated the State government for coming with the great initiative stating that it will allow communities to have a great influence In the progress of the academic performance of their students.
He said the initiative will also create a working synergy between the government and the private education stakeholders.
