2027: Ijesa Unites Drums Support For Sam Oyedotun

A non-political group in Ijesaland, Ijesa Unites, has thrown its weight behind the ambition of Sam Oyedotun, an aspirant for the Osun East Senatorial District.

The group, in a statement signed by its coordinator, Hon. Olanrewaju Ogedengbe, and its secretary, Alhaja Mariam Adesoye, on Saturday, argued that the senatorial ticket should rotate back to the Ife zone after being held by Ijesa for eight years.

Ijesa Unites said any party interested in winning the support of Ife/Ijesa electorates in the 2027 general elections must consider the Ife zone.

It noted that the argument that the major political parties have their deputy governorship candidates from Ife should be jettisoned, adding that politics is a game of numbers.

The statement read: “We have watched with keen interest as events unfold within the Ife/Ijesa district. In the spirit of fairness, we boldly state that Ife should produce the next senatorial candidate.

“APC has presented Senator Francis Fadahunsi from the Ijesa axis, despite the eight years he has spent at the National Assembly under the platform of the PDP. Let other parties look to Ife.

“The Osun East senatorial seat has historically alternated between Ife and Ijesa. It is now Ife’s turn to produce the next senator.

“Communities across Ife South, Ife North, and Ife East, as well as Modakeke, should not be deprived in the drive for development in Osun East. That is why we are united behind the aspiration of Sam Oyedotun.”

“After extensive deliberations, we believe the ticket should be given to Modakeke-born aspirant Oyedotun. The town has been marginalised for too long, and any party that looks in that direction will be pleasantly surprised, because it will serve as a beacon of hope for Ife North and South.

“His contributions across the Ife/Ijesa axis are a testament to what he will do if given the chance. We know he is competent and accessible. He is a man of integrity with a clean record. That is why we are supporting his ambition,” the statement concluded.
