The Rector stated this on Wednesday in his welcome address during the matriculation ceremony of 5, 849 new students of the Polytechnic for the 2023/2024 academic session held at new 500 capacity building of the Institution.

In a statement made available to newsmen by the Institution’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Adebayo Samson Abiodun the Rector, Dr. Ajibola admonished the newly admitted students to desist from any anti-social behaviours capable of disrupting the smooth running of the Polytechnic.

He warned that the management will not hesitate to sanction anyone found culpable of any act of misconduct as well as other forms of social menace.

The Rector who assured parents and guardians that their children/wards are in safe hands hinted that the TOPS is on the path of becoming a world-class institution as various mechanisms have been put in place to attain the feat.

Dr. Ajibola, while welcoming the students to the institution, noted that the matriculation marks a special milestone as new faces and new blood are injected into the Polytechnics, Universities and Colleges of Education.

He said: “I am excited to welcome you to our great Polytechnic, where we enforce academic excellence with godliness and where we enforce our core values.

“TOPS is on the path of becoming a world-class institution and various mechanisms have been put in place to attain this feat. We assure you all the Parents and Guardians that your children/wards are in safe hands.

“Presently, TOPS have all its programmes fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). At this Matriculation Ceremony today, we will be matriculating Students into the accredited 6 Schools of TOPS and the schools are: School of Science; School of Financial Management Studies; School of Environmental Studies; School of Engineering; School of Agricultural and Natural Resources and School of Business and Communication.”

While encouraging the new students to stick tightly to the rules and regulations enshrined in the students Handbook, the Rector further tasked them to show respect to their classmates and all members of staff in TOPS in order to make their stay productive and fruitful as well to be modest and decent in their dressing always.

“You also need to continually remember that the distance between today’s ceremony and convocation ceremony is quite wide and it is important that the journey ends successfully. For this to happen, you need to be regular in attending lectures, carrying out all your assignments, avoiding deviant behaviours and other vices that can expose you and others to danger.

“We are fully aware that in the just concluded orientation programme, you must have been informed of the co-curricular activities available in TOPS. We will strive to improve on them as time goes by.

“Finally, we wish to assure you of maximum security in TOPS. We however, plead that you do not hesitate to report any suspicious activities to the Dean of Student Affairs and Security Officers nearest to you.

“Be reminded that the oath you have taken today is to be obedient to the Rector, the Management Team, all those in authority and to be of good conduct throughout your stay in TOPS. Please be warned that a breach of the oath taken today will definitely attract appropriate sanctions.

“Again, I advise you to steer clear of cultism, hooliganism and other forms of social menace. I pray that the Almighty God will watch over all of you, prosper you and make you all a source of pride to your families, states, country and humanity. Today’s Joy shall be permanent. Amen.

“Once again, we congratulate all the matriculating students, wish you a productive and fruitful stay in TOPS. We pray that your journey at TOPS be a transformative and rewarding experience. Thank you all and God Bless you all,” he stated.
