UNIMED Inducts 82 New Nurses, Calls for Support
The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) in Ondo State has inducted 82 new nursing graduates into the profession during its 4th Professional Induction Ceremony which held at the Odosida campus of the University on Tuesday.
Professor Adekemi Eunice Olowokere, a Professor of Community-Public Health Nursing in the Department of Nursing Science, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, emphasized the role nurses play in the healthcare sector, contributing to health promotion, disease prevention, and innovative healthcare delivery models.
“Nurses constitute a substantial portion of Healthcare workforce, health-care investment in Nigeria has been low by global standards” she said.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Roseangela Nwuba, encouraged the new nurses to be good ambassadors of the University.
“As you go out into the world, I encourage you to remain good ambassadors of the University and deploy the knowledge you have acquired to impact the society positively” the Vice Chancellor said.
Also speaking, The Registrar of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, represented by Mrs Stella Godswill, urged the newly inducted nurses to be compassionate, kind and have listening ears in their practice.
The ceremony also featured remarks from The Dean, Faculty of Nursing Sciences, Dr. Mary Edward, and Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, who stressed the importance of compassion and kindness in the nursing practice.
