UPDATE: Katsina Lawmaker On Lesser Hajj Dies, Buried In Saudi Arabia
A member of the Katsina State House of Assembly representing Bakori Local Government Area, Dr. Ibrahim Kurami, is dead.
He died in Saudi Arabia at about 2 am (Nigerian time) on Monday while on lesser Hajj (Umrah) and was buried in Medina also on Monday.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Ali Al-Baba, confirmed the incident on Monday.
Although Al-Baba, who represents Katsina Constituency in the House did not give details surrounding Kurami’s death, he said he and other lawmakers would pay a condolence visit to the hometown (Kurami) and the Bakori constituency of the late lawmaker after their ongoing workshop in Kano.
Family sources said the late lawmaker was survived by two wives, 11 children and three grandchildren.
Kurami was an All Progressives Congress lawmaker who also won the last primary to represent the constituency under the platform of the party in the 2023 forthcoming general election.
Kurami was elected into the 34-member Katsina State House of Assembly in a by-election of 31, October 2020, following the death of his predecessor in office ,Abdurrazak Ismail Tsiga.
The PUNCH recalls that terrorists kidnapped Kurami’s first wife and two sons on 5 September 2021,although the trio later regained their freedom.
