The Vice President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Barr Seyi Akinwumi, has given an assurance for the Super Eagles’ qualification for both the African Nation’s Cup 2021 and World Cup in Qatar, come Dec. 2022 respectively.

Akinwunmi in a virtual -zoom interview reiterated that plans are in the works by the Technical Director of Super Eagles, Gernet Rohr, to ensure that Nigeria picks the tickets for the two important football events, holding both on the continent and globally respectively.

“Nigeria will surely qualify for both the AFCON in Cameroon and Mundia in Qatar, afterall the coach has been mapping out his strategies on how to win the next match against Benin Republic in Cotonou and that of Lesotho few days after.

“Also, for instance, Gernet Rohr came to Lagos last weekend to inspect the stadium facilities ahead of the next match against Lesotho in Lagos shortly after the Benin Republic match and he has been doing alot to ensure the Eagles pick maximum points in the remaining AFCON qualifiers,” he stated.

Nigeria is currently topping the group with 8 points, having played four matches so far out of six in the AFCON 2021 qualifier, beating Lesotho 4-1 at home, defeated Benin 2-1, and drew against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone 4-4 and 0-0 home and away last year.

To qualify for the tournament, Nigeria needs just a draw against Benin who is trailing her with 7points behind, while Leone Stars are third on the table with 3points despite playing the role of a kill joy against the Super Eagles.

But Lesotho, who have not won a match yet is at the bottom of the chart.

However, Super Eagles’ flop at Ogbe Stadium last year, whereby the coach Rohr tutored team surrendered a 4-1 lead in the first half to secure a 4-4 draw in the game they had perfectly under control, has continued to draw flaks from football pundits; who felt that they lack technical depth.

But Barr. Akinwunmi said that was in the past, saying “such situations cannot be ruled out in football, just as he assured that the team has been rejuvenated for future challenges.”
