Panic Over Gas Pipeline Rupture At Arepo
A gas pipeline rupture has occured around Arepo close to the Punch headquarters along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway worsening traffic gridlock on the lane.
It was learnt that the pipeline got bursted while men of Julius Berger, the construction company working on Lagos-Ibadan expressway were escavating a surface for Worksite.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Commander, Lagos-Ibadan-Egbeda Corridor, DCC Kehinde G Hamzat said the development has led to a standstill traffic situation.
It was learnt that both sections of the expressway are currently blocked as a result of the incident.
The FRSC advised motorists not to panic, saying, “Professionals are being contacted to take care of the situation.”
“For people who have a time-bound activities may explore alternative routes and for those who can postpone their trips, let us endeavor to do so while the situation gets controlled,” the FRSC said.
Similarly, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), appealed to commuters and people around the Arepo-Magboro axis to comply with safety measures taken to safeguard their lives and property following the rupture.
NEMA Coordinator, Lagos Territorial Office, Ibrahim Farinloye disclosed that supplies have been shut down “to suffocate the supply line while fire service men are on standby to forestall any emergency.”
Farinloye said all agencies of government including the NEMA, FRSC, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Nigeria Gas Company and Ogun State Fire Service “are working assiduously to stabilise the situation.”
