Democracy Day:the Present Democratic System Should Be Protected- Omooba Babayemi
As Nigeria marks twenty one years of uninterrupted democracy, politicians have been advised to refrain from actions capable of derailing the present democratic system.
A frontline politician in Osun State, Omooba Dotun Babayemi gave the charge in his congratulatory message to Nigerians on the occasion.
Omooba Babayemi said that factors that led to the collapse of past republics should not be allowed to rear their ugly heads ever again.
Omooba Babayemi who is a legal practitioner, argued that strict compliance with rule of law should be paramount in the conduct of affairs of governance pointing out that governments at all levels should obey all judgements given by courts of competent jurisdiction, no matter how unpalatable to the functionaries of governments.
On economy, Omooba Babayemi noted that things were getting worse for average Nigerians as a result of placing wrong emphasis on what could not develop the economy.
He pointed out that agriculture remains the mainstay of any Nation and as such Government should focus more on agriculture by assisting genuine farmers and those, especially youths, who are ready to take agriculture as a way of living.
Omooba Dotun Babayemi who aspires to represent Osun West Senatorial District in the next elections, assured that apart from giving his people quality representation, he would empower them through programs that would teach them how to fish rather than giving them fish that would hardly last one day.
Omooba Babayemi wished the people better life today and tomorrow as the Nation”s democracy is taking a sound footing.
