Ooni Congratulates Lula On Re-election, Seeks Stronger Africa-Brazil Ties
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election, calling for stronger partnerships between Africa and Brazil in culture, trade, education and tourism.
The traditional ruler said Lula’s renewed mandate presents an opportunity to deepen diplomatic relations, promote cultural exchange and strengthen cooperation between the two regions.
The congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Sodiq Lawal, Senior Media Officer at the Ooni’s Palace, on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare.
The Ooni, who is the Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council and Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, expressed optimism that the Brazilian leader’s new mandate would create fresh opportunities for international collaboration and mutual understanding.
He highlighted the historical and cultural connections between Africa and Brazil, stressing the need to build on their shared heritage to promote people-to-people relations and mutually beneficial partnerships.
According to the monarch, the longstanding links between the two regions provide a foundation for expanding cooperation in tourism, education, trade, youth development and the preservation of African cultural identity.
The Ooni, who is also recognised for his advocacy for Yoruba unity and the promotion of African cultural heritage, emphasised the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening relationships across continents.
He called on world leaders to prioritise peace, unity, inclusive development and constructive dialogue as they address challenges confronting their respective countries and the international community.
The monarch further expressed confidence that Lula would use his renewed mandate to advance Brazil’s development agenda and strengthen the country’s engagement with African nations.
He also underscored the importance of collaboration among traditional institutions, governments and international organisations in promoting cultural understanding and building lasting bridges between nations.
The Ooni wished President Lula a successful tenure, expressing hope that his leadership would contribute to Brazil’s continued development and foster stronger relations between Brazil and African countries.
