A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ife East, Honourable Yinka Olatunbosun has described June 12 as a perfect day to celebrate our nascent but growing democracy saying that Nigeria has a history with the day.

Olatunbosun in a press release personally signed by him on Friday in Osogbo, Osun State capital, congratulated Nigerians on the 2020 celebration of the Democracy Day emphasising that Nigeria democracy is growing despite the challenges.

He stated that June 12 is sacrosanct to our democracy and Nigerians would forever be grateful to President Muhammadu Buhari and the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, for recognising the ultimate sacrifices paid by Nigerians in 1993 and subsequent agitations for return to democracy.

He said: “I congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress and all Nigerians on the celebration of the 21st anniversary of unbroken democracy in the country.

“Our democracy is not only growing but it is gradually becoming a model for other nations. The developmental strides in our economy, infrastructure, education, health and human-capital development among others are indicators to our growing democracy.

“This year’s celebration is even special because it is the first we are celebrating after the inaugural celebration. It is also special because it is coming at the peak period of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“However, we have to thank God for the continuous blessings that the nation has enjoyed to still be a strong, virile and one indivisible nation despite the any challenges.

Olatunbosun eulogised Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola for his giant strides in developing the state despite the dwindling resources saying that prudency and efficiency have been the hallmark of his administration.

“I must commend the people’s governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola who is using little available resources to develop the state. In less than two years in office, his achievements in the area of infrastructural development, health, education, security, and human development among others have been phenomenal.

“I equally commend the governor for clinically preventing the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the state. If not for his sagacity, Osun case would have been worse.”

The APC chieftain prayed that Nigeria democracy would continue to grow and that God Almighty will continue to accept the souls of Chief MKO Abiola and all other pro-democracy activists who paid the supreme price for the liberation of the nation.
