Adepoju Donates Face Masks to Journalists In Osun, Tasks On Precautionary Measures

A philanthropist, Comrade Adetunji Adepoju on Thursday donated face masks to members of Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State Council.

He equally urged them to always observe precautionary measure put in place by the government.

Adepoju while presenting the customised face Masks to the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, said he decided to distribute the face masks as a way of helping them to comply with government directives on compulsory use of face masks to contain the spread of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.

He noted that since journalists plays a critical roles in keeping the populace abreast on the development over the COVID-19 pandemic in the state just like any other essential workers, there is need for government, Corporate Organisations and individuals to give them necessary support to aid their job.

He said: “Journalism as a public service is vital and doesn’t stop. Journalists are still covering press conferences and conducting on-the-ground reporting. Journalists play vital roles as they keep residents abreast on the development of Coronavirus. How can they protect themselves from contracting the disease. They need support of all and sundry because they are part of essential workers.

The veteran journalist used the opportunity to appeal to residents of Osun not to spread the COVID-19 virus by maintaining social distancing and carry out basic hygiene practices such as regular washing of hands.

According to Adepoju, social distancing at this point is crucial to flatten the curve and break the cycle of transmission of the virus.

He appealed that maintaining social distancing is key to safety of lives, as well as constant washing of hands with soap and water, use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers, cleaning of frequently touched surfaces, isolating self and call for help if symptoms of acute respiratory infection such as coughing, sneezing, sore throat and difficulty in breathing occurs.

Speaking, Comrade Olaniyi Ajibola, Chairman, Osun NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel appreciated the philanthropic gesture of Adepoju.
