Coronavirus: Don’t Panic, Osun Govt Urges Residents, Takes Sensitization Campaign To Religious Centres
Following confirmed case of coronavirus in Lagos State, the State government of Osun has urged residents not to panic, saying all necessary machineries have been put in place to prevent the dreaded disease also known as COVID-19 from entering the state.
He assured residents that the government under the leadership of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola is committed to all activities aimed at strengthening awareness and prevention of both Lassa fever and Coronavirus outbreaks in the State.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Pharmacist Olasiji Olamiju, said this during a sensitization campaign against the disease at religious centres in Osogbo on Sunday.
According to him, “With the confirmation of a case in Lagos, it has become imperative for all stakeholders to join hands to prevent its spread because almost every household have relatives in Lagos while several others travel to buy/sell.”
He said that a Technical Action Committee had been activated and part of their duty is to quickly map out action plans and necessary precautions to prevent the outbreak in the state.
He appealed to residents not to panic but to always maintain hygienic environmental and healthy practices such as constant hand washing and use of sanitizer.
Olamiju advised the public to refrain from being in crowded gatherings, report any case of fever and flu by calling the Osun Emergency tollfree number, 293 and avoid self medication.
In the same vein, the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Funke Alabi and the State APC Women leader, Alhaja Kudirat Fakokunde who appreciate Governor Oyetola for his proactiveness, implored members of the public to be mindful of the advice, just as the Special Adviser charged religious leaders to cooperate with the government on the sensitization campaign.
Places of worship visited include, Union Baptist church, First Baptist church, Redeemed Christian Church of God, NASFAT praying ground, The Apostolic church, All Saints Church, Celestial Church of Christ wonderland, among others.
