By Niyi Olutunde, Akure
Ahead of the April 18 Local Government election in Ondo state, the Chairman of the Mega Party of Nigeria, in the state, Prince Biyi Poroye has said that going ahead with the Council election without following the laws, would amount to waste of public funds.
According to Poroye, the upcoming Local Government Elections must be critically looked into before it would be conducted across all the 18 local government areas.
Poroye stated this while speaking in a Radio Programme (Political Podium) aired on Radio Nigeria Positive FM 102.5, Akure.
The Mega Party chairman who lambasted the Chairman of the state Independent Electoral Commission, (ODIEC), Prof Yomi Dinakin of committing a lot of Electoral blunders which could lead to natural nullification of April 18, 2020 local government election if conducted.
He said the electoral errors committed by the ODIEC Chairman included the rolling out of the timetable for the council polls without the involvement of any Political Party for perusal as required by the Electoral Act.
He noted that the Chairman had not collected the voters’ register as we speak but he has fixed date for the elections which is against the Electoral Act 2010 as Amended.
His words, “Going by records, I think the ODIEC Chairman has no any Electoral experience to conduct the forthcoming LG Election in the state; noting that, any Election that is held outside the stipulated date by law, it’s STATUS BAR and will be taking that no elections was conducted. You can not build something on nothing.”
In view of this, Poroye called on the Attorney General of the state, to advise the ODIEC and Government appropriately so that the state money would not be wasted.
