5 Major Highlights From Makinde’s 100 Days in Office Media Chat
By Abiodun Ogunrinde, Ibadan
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo
state on Thursday appeared on
a live television programme at
the State-Owned Radio and
Television stations,
Broadcasting Corporation of
Oyo State (BCOS) as parts of
events to mark the first hundred days in office as the Executive Governor of the state.
CityMirrorNews correspondence takes a look at five key highlights from the programme:
Governor Seyi Makinde stated that the Oyo government is concluding plans to set up members of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) to conduct fresh elections into the 33 local government areas of the state.
The Governor said that the state will begin compulsory and free extra tutorials classes across schools in the state.
He said he spoke with the Osun state
governor, Gboyega Oyetola about
LAUTECH and why the plan to split
signed between Ex Governor Alao Akala and Ex Governor Olagusoye Oyinlola was not implemented while added that Oyo State will have to pay the salary of LAUTECH (Osun’s share) because he doesn’t want the students to suffer.
He also said that his government has changed its mind about scrapping the
CCTV cameras installed by the immediate past government of Abiola Ajimobi. According to him, “During electioneering, I said I would scrap CCTV cameras but after getting into
government, we changed our minds as scrapping it would be a disservice to the people of Oyo State since the money has already been spent. Rather, we will enhance it so it can be useful to combat criminality.”
He spoke about some roads project. According to him, “We revoked the Saki-Iseyin road contract and are in the process of awarding to a more competent contractor. You may have noticed that we just approved a new budget a few days ago. Only about N70 billion income has been realised in Oyo state so, we reduced the budget to a more realistic one.”
