42-year-old Sheikh Muhammad Dasuki Named Chief Imam Of Ilorin
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has approved the appointment of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as the 13th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Emir’s spokesman, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, who said the new Chief Imam emerged after a rigorous selection process involving several eminent Islamic scholars.
According to the statement, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki was selected from among a number of qualified contenders for the highly revered spiritual position, following consultations and consideration of the candidates’ religious credentials and leadership qualities.
The newly appointed Chief Imam succeeds the late Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammad Bashir Imam, OON, who passed away on January 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of religious leadership and service to the Muslim community in Ilorin and beyond.
Aged 42, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki comes from a distinguished lineage of Islamic scholars. He is a grandson of the 8th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, and the son of the 10th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka.
Before his appointment, he was the founder and proprietor of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies, Airport Area, Egbejila, Ilorin. He also served as the Imam of Afusat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko Olowo, where he led daily prayers and weekly Jumu’ah services.
The new Chief Imam has a strong academic background in Islamic studies. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Islamic Shari’ah from Al-Azhar University in 2014 and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies at Al-Hikmah University. He also holds a Diploma in Arabic Islamic Education from the Institute of Education, Ahmadu Bello University.
He attended Darul Kitab wa Sunnah in Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin, and received his primary education at Oke Suna LGEA Primary School, Ilorin. The Emir prayed for a successful tenure for the new Chief Imam, asking Almighty Allah to grant him wisdom, good health and long life as he leads the Muslim Ummah in the emirate.
