Osun PDP Senator-elect Bemoans State Of Insecurity In Nigeria, Proffers Solution
The Senator-elect for Osun East Senatorial District, Prince Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, has described the security situation as precarious and unacceptable, reinstating his earlier call in the month for a more proactive measure by the federal government to curb the degenerating trend
In a statement by his media assistant, Sam Segun-Progress, Fadahunsi said the insecurity situation in the country is the worst in the nations since the return to democracy
“The rate of banditry, kidnapping, communal clashes and robbery is overwhelming and one wonders what the service chiefs are doing or what they tell Mr. President when they see him”
The statement recalled how a state governor got overwhelmed and declared he is no longer the chief security officer of his state.”How can a state with military formation,a commissioner of police and other security agencies be overwhelmed by some miscreants from neighboring countries”. He asked
Fadahunsi alleged that the military shows their prowess against voters and innocent citizens during elections but finds it difficult to face hoodlums and bandits who have taken over our towns and highways
“The security crisis in the nation has taken a terrible dimenaion such that state governors declare curfew like holidays and nothing tangible is achieved. Abuja have also joined the league of insecure cities where no one is safe”.
Fadahunsi said the federal government must as a matter of urgency review our security system and its time for the President to declare a state of emergency in the security sector and give a stern matching order to the security chiefs to show competence or be fired.
Is it not nauseating that military officers travel to Kaduna by rail for fear of the terror on the road? Is it not disheartening that eminent citizens with security details travel to Kaduna by rail
The Senator elect also suggest demilitarization of the nation, because according to him, this military men could also be a major reason for the tension There may also be the need to call for a stakeholders meeting with former heads of states and retired security chiefs to dialogue on what can be done utgenly to stern this urgly tide.
