Osun NUJ Applauds Salam’s Emergence As AFROPAC Secretary-General
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, has congratulated the member representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Bamidele Salam, on his election as Secretary-General of the African Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC).
Salam, who chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, emerged as Secretary-General at the conclusion of the organisation’s conference held in Accra, Ghana.
In a congratulatory statement jointly signed by the NUJ Osun State Council Chairman, Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin, and Secretary, Comrade Olalekan Akindoju, the union described the development as a significant achievement for Nigeria and a source of pride to Osun State.
The Council noted that Salam’s emergence marked the first time a Nigerian would occupy the strategic position in the continental organisation, describing it as recognition of the country’s contributions to legislative accountability and public financial oversight.
According to the statement, the new position comes with important responsibilities, particularly in promoting transparency, accountability, prudent management of public resources and effective parliamentary oversight across African countries.
The union expressed confidence that the lawmaker would deploy his legislative experience and commitment to public accountability to strengthen the organisation and deepen collaboration among public accounts committees across the continent.
It added that his election was a source of inspiration to the people of Osun State, particularly young professionals and aspiring leaders, demonstrating that dedication, public service and commitment could open opportunities for meaningful contributions beyond national boundaries.
The NUJ further expressed optimism that Salam’s emergence would strengthen Nigeria’s influence in continental legislative affairs and encourage greater cooperation among African parliamentary institutions.
The Council wished the lawmaker a successful and impactful tenure, urging him to use the new position to advance transparency, good governance and accountability in public financial management across Africa.
