OSHA 2019: Deji Of Akure Threatens To Invoke Ancestral Spirit On Thugs

The Deji of Akureland, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, yesterday, threatened to invoke the spirit of the ancestors on politicians and suspected thugs who perpetuate violence during Saturday’s election.

This came as the state Police Command vowed to arrest and prosecute anyone who flouts the 12 hour restriction of movement across the state.

Police commissioner Undie Adie at a meeting with stakeholders across the state said any politicians found with weapons would be arrested and prosecuted.

Oba Aladelusi gave the warning at a meeting with leaders of political parties where he cautioned politicians against instigating violence during and after the exercise.

The Ondo monarch said: “The security agencies must be alive to their responsibilities in fishing out potential criminals and ensuring that there is adequate security coverage during the election.”

He equally admonished the electoral umpire to remain neutral and impartial in the Saturday election.

He said: “I have no doubt that the Governor is a peace loving man. As the Chief Security Officer of the State, he will not want anything to disturb the existing peace in the State.

“However, there could be some fifth columnists, who are hiding somewhere and will want to use the avenue of the election to unleash mayhem. This necessitated the need for this kind of meeting.”

Also, the state Police Commissioner warned residents of the state against any act of violence that might disrupt the election.

Adie said movement would be “restricted from 6am to 6pm in order to assist security agencies in the state to effectively prevent hoodlums and criminally- minded elements from hijacking and disrupting the electoral process.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the coalition of opposition political parties have raised alarm that the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government has empowered the members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, to disrupt the election across the state.

The PDP state chairman, Clement Faboyede alleged that “The APC government also plans to influence a reduction in the presence of security officers in polling units where the attacks would be carried out.

Faboyede noted that the atmosphere in the state became charged immediately after the conduct of the last Presidential and National Assembly elections.
