Corps Member Rehabilitates Ex-convict Released From Prison In Osun

A serving corps member in Osun, Mr Samuel Oni on Monday, commenced the process of rehabilitation and reintegration of an ex-convict, recently released from Ilesha prison, Osun.

Oni, had on Jan. 17 inaugurated a community development project, the rehab project, with the aim of rehabilitating and integrating 20 ex-convicts back into the society.

The corps member, a lawyer serving at the Osun Ministry of Justice, went to Ilesha prison with his Rehab project team, as a follow up activity, to meet with the 22 year old ex-convict at the point of his discharge.

The ex-convict, who served three years prison sentence for false pretense, was thereafter conveyed to his village in Inisa, Osun and reunited with his family after the rehab team took him to a clinic for first aid treatment.

The mother of the ex-convict, who had not seen her son in the past five years and did not know his whereabouts, expressed great joy in seeing him again.

She said all the while she did not see her son, she had been very sad and at a point, wished for death to take her, in order to stop thinking about her missing son.

Oni and his Rehab team however, emphasised the need for proper care for the ex-convict and encouraging him to stay away from crime.

On his part, the ex-convict thanked the Rehab team for the show of love and also promised to stay away from crime and all forms of incriminating activities.

He however solicited for more support from the team, explaining that while he was in prison, he had learnt bricklaying as a vocation and would need assistance and tools to practice and operate.

Oni and his team however assured him of their continuous support for his reintegration, particularly in the area of his vocation, pledging to provide him with the needed tools.

The corps member said that since the inauguration of his project, three ex-convicts have benefited and still benefiting from his initiative.

He said he had provided life skills to the ex-convicts, by helping them regain self-esteem while emphasizing it to them, the need to shun crime.

He said the newly released ex-convict would be provided with working tools for his bricklaying vocation by next week and that other ex-convicts benefiting from the rehab programme had also been provided with vocational work tools
