Use Your Influence As The Chairman Of Former Presidents On Education Globally, Prof Olagoke Urges Obasanjo

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who was recently appointed as the Chairman of former Presidents by the United Nations has been urged to use his influence on education globally.

The admonition was given by Professor Sabit Ariyo Olagoke JP during his inaugural lecture titled “The Honey Bees on Sustainable Development Concept: TVET-SDG Linkage for Nigeria” at The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro in Ogun State and which was attended by former Rectors of Polytechnics, Deans, academics, professionals

Traditional rulers and many influential Nigerians.

Olagoke observed that the international appointment conferred on Chief Obasanjo was not only a pride to Nigeria but African race as a whole adding that as a lover of education, he expected him to influence that sphere as well as good governance internationally

The former Dean of School of Engineering of the Polytechnic was not pleased with the way which stakeholders in the country were handling education adding “education is the right of everyone, for knowledge acquisition through which a society is cultivated, cultured, constructed and developed.

The Fellow of many professional bodies noted that polytechnic education and other technical vocational educational training (TVET) Centre institutions must be industry -driven through intimate bridges between the institutions and the industry identifying problem and fostering understanding of mutual problems and requirements to profer feasible engineering practical solutions to advance industrialisation

Olagoke who is also the Proprietor of Shafaudeen Group of Schools in Ibadan urged lawmakers and other stake holders in the country to review upward ,the budgetary allocation to education sector adding that the Federal Government must ” make upward review of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
Members allowance and organise a compulsory saving scheme for the purpose of empowering them into entrepreneurship after the service.

Both the Rector of the institution, Arch.Olusegun Aluko and the Registrar, Mrs O.F.Osoro said that the institution and its lecturers as well as students including workers were highly challenged by the 104 page lecture which they said holistically addressed the problems confronting education in the country.

The Rector who described Olagoke as a pride to the school said that the inaugural lecture which was also a valedictory one would be sustained in the institution adding that the Chief lecturer who retires this month would remain a pride for the school.

The Registrar noted that the crowd at the lecture was an indication that Olagoke was well admired because of his humility, industry and piety.

The Governor of Osun State Ogbeni Rauf  Aregnesola who was represented by one of his s Aides urged Olagoke to sustain the virtues which endeared him to many people praying that God would keep him to be more useful for Him and humanity.
