4 Jostle For NAFDAC DG
At least four persons are reportedly on the radar for consideration and appointment as substantive director-general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), it was learnt.
The position of a substantive DG for the nation’s food and drug control agency became vacant following the disengagement of its last occupant, Professor Paul Orhii in February, 2016.
Mrs Yetunde Oni assumed the position on an acting capacity and has been acting since then.
But sources at the Presidency said yesterday that among the twelve candidates who indicated interest in the job, four have been shortlisted for screening.
It was gathered that top on the list is the acting director general, Mrs Yetunde Oni. Others in contention are a professor of pharmacy, Mr Suleiman Abubakar; Mallam Umar Musa and Mr Shaba Mohammed, director and deputy director respectively at the agency.
Findings revealed that the minister of health, Professor Isaac Adewale is favourably disposed to having Mrs Oni confirmed as the substantive DG as he was satisfied with her performance since she assumed duty in acting capacity.
A source at the ministry of health who noted that the acting DG deserved to be confirmed so that she could carry on with the work she was doing said “Since taking over the mantle of leadership of the Agency, Mrs Oni has exhibited exceptional leadership qualities, which have led to the transformation of the Agency back to its past glory both locally and internationally.
“Being a foundation staff and pioneer Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mrs Oni has contributed to the evolutionary process and nurturing of NAFDAC as a topmost regulatory agency. Her impeccable track record as a hardworking, dedicated, selfless, honest and brilliant officer, are sterling qualities commending her as great asset for the change agenda of Mr President.”
