Oluwo Visits Emir Of Ilorin, Seeks Bilateral Interaction
I`m envy of Iwo – Emir
Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has sought the
support of Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu Fanatic and his emirates for a bilateral interaction towards promoting the religious, economic and political interest of the ancient city of Iwo in sustenance of their ancestral
understanding.
He said Iwo and Ilorin were one as
demonstrated by the renowned Islamic scholars from the two Islamic states.
Oluwo made the disclosure on his courtesy visit to Emir of Ilorin’s
palace, Ilorin yesterday to reconnect the two Islamic states of Iwo
and Ilorin.
In his words “Our ancestors were well versed and connected in Islamic
knowledge. They were intimate brothers in Islam, kindness and knowledge. To attest to their affinity, Iwo is called Geri Malami while Ilorin is Geri Alimi. But the interaction between the duos is not cordial as before. Hence, one of the primary reason for my visitation. ”
“Nigeria is thirsty of the two communities for her survival and can
best be achieved with mutual and unverifiable affinity. Iwo should be
seen as Ilorin while I address Ilorin as Iwo from today. We are both
bastion of Islamic knowledge and culture and that shall continue to be
sustained as laid by the early scholars of the two states”.
In his remark, Emir of Ilorin, HRM Ibrahim Gambari eulogized Oluwo for
his sense of history and understanding, promising unquenchable interaction with Iwo. He disclosed that Ilroin is envy of Iwo blessed with many Islamic scholars flourishing and making the town proud even outside Nigeria.
Emir affirmed Iwo as a twin home to Ilorin, the closest and well
connected to each other on Islamic knowledge and teachings in the
whole western region.
He said he and Ilroin Emirates are wholeheartedly ready for bilateral
relationship with Oluwo and urged citizens of the two cities to be one
like never before.
According to him “While Oluwo said he is envy of Ilorin, I am also envy of Iwo in one thing. That is, Iwo has many Islamic scholars well respected overseas especially in Saudi for their wealth of knowledge.
Those scholars are making Iwo proud. Iwo is the most recognized Islamic city in the south western Nigeria. And that is one of the best of all assets” Emir of Ilorin
