Power Outages: FG Promises Improved Electricity Supply Within 72 Hours

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that electricity supply will improve within the next 48 to 72 hours as efforts are intensified to restore affected power generation facilities and address disruptions to the national grid.

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, gave the assurance in an update on the country’s electricity situation issued on Friday, November 6, 2026, acknowledging the hardship caused by persistent power outages in four affected states, including Lagos State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Tegbe attributed the decline in electricity supply to scheduled maintenance at the Egbin Power Station and gas supply constraints affecting some thermal power plants.

He explained that the challenges had reduced the volume of electricity available on the national grid, forcing grid operators to introduce load shedding in some areas to manage the limited supply.

The minister also identified the sabotage of critical transmission lines as another factor worsening the situation, noting that the development had restricted alternative routes for transmitting electricity to some locations, particularly Lagos.

According to him, the Federal Government is working with relevant operators to restore affected generating units in phases, with the first set expected to return to operation within the next 48 to 72 hours.

He added that efforts were also underway to improve gas supply to thermal power plants and fast-track repairs to damaged electricity infrastructure.

Tegbe acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the outages and appealed to affected electricity consumers to remain patient, assuring them that further updates would be provided as efforts to restore stable power supply progress.
