Political Drama As Shekarau Joins APC, Yusuf Hails Major Victory
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has welcomed the defection of former governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a significant gain for the ruling party in the state.
Shekarau formally resigned his membership of the PDP on Sunday and announced his return to the APC, a party he helped to establish.
In a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Yusuf expressed delight over Shekarau’s decision, noting that his return would further consolidate the party’s influence in Kano.
The governor said arrangements were underway, in collaboration with the party’s national leadership, to fix a date for the formal reception of the former governor into the APC.
Yusuf added that the APC in Kano continues to attract increasing support, strengthening its position as a dominant political force in the state.
He also expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness for future elections, citing unity among stakeholders and ongoing political alignments as factors driving its optimism.
The governor assured party members of the leadership’s commitment to deepening internal cohesion and expanding grassroots mobilisation across the state.
He urged supporters to remain committed and intensify efforts to build momentum ahead of upcoming political contests.
