Shun Worldly Distractions, Live Godly Lives, Cleric Urges at Malomo’s Burial Thanksgiving

A cleric, Reverend Emmanuel Akindele, has urged Christians to distance themselves from worldly distractions and remain steadfast in Christ, warning that the devil often works through everyday influences to draw people away from godliness.

The admonition was given during the burial and thanksgiving service of the late Mrs Rhoda Oyetola Malomo, held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Ada.

In his sermon, Reverend Akindele described the devil as an antagonist of Christ, stressing that many modern-day influences subtly weaken the faith of believers.

“The devil operates in this world as an antagonist of Christ,” he said. “He uses things around us, our thoughts, our phones, worldly wisdom, songs and entertainment to take our focus away from God.”
He warned that even seemingly beneficial aspects of life could become harmful if not properly guided.

“Even agriculture, which is meant to sustain life, can be manipulated to produce harmful substances. This shows that believers must be spiritually alert at all times,” he added.

Akindele further reminded the congregation of the temporary nature of life on earth.

“We are all visitors in this world, and one day we shall all leave. What matters most is how we live our lives and where we will spend eternity,” he said.
Calling for a renewed commitment to God, he urged Christians to live differently from the world.

“We must separate ourselves from worldly things and live a better, Godly life. Our lifestyle must reflect Christ in everything we do,” he concluded.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the first child of the deceased, Mr. Oladayo Malomo, paid glowing tribute to his mother, describing her as a compassionate and selfless woman.

“My mum was a very nice and caring woman who showed love to everyone around her. There was nothing she could not give,” he said.

He emphasized her strong Christian values and dedication to humanity.
“She was a God-fearing woman, and that is why we are celebrating her life today. We believe she has gone to rest in a better place,” he added.
Oladayo also highlighted her passion for education and her impact as a teacher in the community.

“My mother loved education so much. She always told us that for you to become what you want in life, you must be educated,” he said.
According to him, many people in the community benefitted from her years of service as a teacher.

“Even some of the educated people you see today passed through her in primary school. She taught them and impacted their lives positively,” he noted.

He further stated that her teachings shaped the lives of her children.
“The values she instilled in us have helped me and my siblings to become responsible and successful wherever we find ourselves,” he said.
The late Mrs Rhoda Oyetola Malomo, who died at the age of 89, was remembered for her dedication to service, love for people, and unwavering faith in God.

The well-attended burial service drew family members, friends, traditional ruler, church members, and well-wishers, after which her remains were laid to rest at the church cemetery.
