JUST IN: Kwankwaso Resigns From NNPP
Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect.
Kwankwaso announced his decision in a statement on Sunday and described it as a difficult but necessary step in view of the current political developments in the country.
The former NNPP national leader also said his decision was informed by the need for what he described as a strategic political realignment.
“Considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation,” he said.
Kwankwaso, who was the NNPP presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, expressed appreciation to the leadership of the party, including the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, and members of the National Working Committee for their support during his time in the party.
He also thanked the party’s Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee, and members across various levels for their commitment to the party’s vision.
The former presidential candidate further acknowledged members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their loyalty and dedication to the political cause he championed.
“I extend my deepest appreciation… to all levels of leadership across the party… as well as the legacy members of the party and all followers of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their dedication and commitment to our shared mission,” he said.
