Amotekun Denies Reports Of Gun Accident At Owo Training Ground
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, has dismissed reports alleging that an accidental gun discharge at its training ground in Owo injured five personnel.
In a statement on Thursday, the Corps’ spokesperson, Mr Jimoh Adeniken, described the claim as false and misleading, insisting that no such incident occurred during any activity of the agency.
Social media reports had claimed that an accidental discharge at the Amotekun New Recruitment Training Ground on Monday left four serving operatives and a newly recruited personnel with gunshot injuries.
The reports also alleged that the firearm involved belonged to the State Commander of the Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye.
Adeniken said the allegations were a gross misrepresentation of facts, stressing that the commander neither discharged a firearm accidentally nor was involved in any incident that caused injuries.
He explained that the Corps had only carried out a routine range classification exercise on January 26, 2026, as part of the ongoing training for newly recruited personnel in Owo.
According to him, the exercise was concluded successfully without casualties. The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and assured residents of the safety of its operatives and the public.
