ADC Takes Shape As New Opposition, Targets 2027 Presidency

The Osun State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Monday said it is yet to officially come up with its gubernatorial candidate for the 2026 governorship election, pointing out that it would do that before the “window” allowed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for final submission of party candidates.

A chieftain of the party, Comrade Ekundayo Olatunde, Secretary of the Isokan Group within the Osun ADC, made this known while reacting to an online publication, claiming the adoption of an individual as the party Flagbearer.

He, however, dismissed the report suggesting that the former Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Dr. Najeem Salaam has been adopted by the party, as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2026 governorship election in the state.

Olatunde, therefore charged members of the public to disregard the claim which, he said, was far from the truth.

” As of the time of the press release, the Osun ADC has not held its gubernatorial primary election, deeming any contrary claims as fallacious.”

“ADC would not repackage governance policies dismissed by citizens in the past, the alleged decision from Lagos was “totalitarian, dictatorial, and disrespectful of internal democracy.”

“Soonest, the ADC party members will address the issue through the proper national and state party channels, underscoring their commitment to internal democracy and proper political engagement.”

“While clarifying further, he maintained, ” the party has not yet conducted its primary election, let alone endorsed any candidate.”

“Nobody has adopted Salam. The purported endorsement is false and misleading.”

He, thereafter, condemned the online publication that, reported that, Salam had been adopted.

According to him, “The online publication has generated significant uproar, disbelief, and disaffection among ADC members in Osun. The contentious decision was made by only one faction out of the three that contribute to the party’s composition in the state.”

“For the benefit of the general public, ADC is a coalition of political interests nationwide. In Osun State, ADC includes members from the PDP (known as ‘Isokan’), APC (known as ‘Omoluabi’), and original ADC members,” he explained, asserting that the party is not owned by any individual or group, he concluded.
