Olusegun Awolowo, the grandson of the late Nigerian statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has died at the age of 62.
Olusegun, a distinguished lawyer, served two consecutive terms as Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council.
He was the son of Chief Awolowo’s first son.
The Awolowo family announced his passing in a statement describing him as “a phenomenal husband, father, and grandfather — steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the unwavering anchor of our family.”
“He was a devoted servant to Nigeria, dedicating his life to the service of his country with vision, integrity, passion, and steadfast commitment,” the statement added. “He was a true family man, a loyal friend, a devoted servant of God, and a deeply remarkable human being.”
The family further noted that Olusegun Awolowo loved his family, his work, and his country, and lived every day with purpose, humility, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew him.
“We are heartbroken by this loss, but eternally grateful for his life, his legacy, and the love he poured into all of us. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the family said.
