PDP BoT Backs Turaki-led NWC, Condemns Violent Attack On National Secretariat

The Sen. Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its support for the Sen. Taminu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), elected at the party’s National Convention in Ibadan.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Wabara said the BoT was convinced that the convention was convened in strict compliance with the party’s constitution, guidelines, the Electoral Act, and all relevant regulations. He added that the outcome of the convention reflected the collective will of PDP delegates and stakeholders nationwide.

Wabara strongly condemned the invasion of the party’s national secretariat by what he described as “expelled members and armed thugs,” accusing them of attempting to unleash violence and forcefully take over the party headquarters.

The BoT also denounced the actions of the expelled individuals who mobilised the thugs in a failed attempt to prevent members of the newly elected NWC, led by Turaki, from accessing the complex. Turaki was accompanied by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State; Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; and other party leaders during the incident.

Wabara commended the courage and resilience of the governors, NWC and BoT members, party leaders, and supporters who resisted the attackers.

“The BoT therefore strongly denounces the statements, actions, and media pronouncements by individuals who were lawfully expelled from the party. Their attempts to undermine the legitimacy of the Ibadan Convention and create confusion within the party structure are not only mischievous but a direct assault on the principles of internal democracy in our country,” he said.

The BoT called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the attack on the PDP national secretariat and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice. “Democracy thrives only where institutions remain impartial, professional, and insulated from partisan manipulation,” Wabara added.
