Not Public Pressure: Adeleke Had Long Approved Iwo–Osogbo Road – Spokesperson

The Osun State Government has clarified that the reconstruction of the Iwo-Osogbo road, approved by Governor Ademola Adeleke, was set in motion long before recent public agitations.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the government clarified that approval for the project was granted as far back as January 2025. The procurement process, which began almost three months ago, has now been concluded, with letters of award delivered to contractors earlier this week.
According to the statement, contractors have already commenced mobilization and are expected to move to site by Monday. The Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Dr. B.T. Salami, was also reported to have carried out a pre-work inspection of the road on Thursday.
“Mr. Governor has demonstrated deep love for Iwoland and its people by addressing infrastructure challenges in the ancient town,” the statement read. “Aside from the ongoing dualisation of the Iwo township road, the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Iwo–Osogbo has been uppermost in Mr. Governor’s mind.”
Rasheed stressed that Adeleke’s decision was not influenced by agitation, noting that the Governor had already assured the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Iwo Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders that all outstanding projects in the town would be delivered within the promised timeline.
“The Governor does not need any protest to do the right thing for Iwoland. He is walking the talk,” Rasheed added.
