Four NSCDC Operatives Arrested Over Death Of Bolt Driver In Edo

Four operatives of Edo State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the manhandling and subsequent death of a Bolt driver, identified as Mr. Henry Osewenkhai.

The deceased, a father of two had on Tuesday taken a passenger to a popular hotel located off Limit Road, off Sapele Road, Benin City, Edo State, where he had an altercation with some unidentified youths, including the NSCDC operatives.
An eye witness who gave his name as Festus Nwabuzor àlleged during a peaceful protest to the Secretariat of the Edo State council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) that the Bolt driver was beaten up and molested by the NSCDC officials after he dropped off a passenger who booked his service to the hotel.
Nwabuzor who described the deceased as his colleague further explained that the bolt driver was about driving out of the hotel when he was suddenly stopped by some suspected Yahoo boys lurking around the car park of the hotel, who accused him of almost hitting them.
While a heated argument ensued between the driver and the suspected Yahoo boys, it was gathered that the Yahoo boys contacted some NSCDC officers who were allegedly providing security for the hotel. He said the NSCDC operatives hurriedly moved to the scene and joined the youths to beat up the driver mercilessly.
The Edo Police Command spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said the victim made a formal complaint to police after the incident.
Yamu expressed shocked when he heard that the victim had passed away due to the internal injuries he sustained from the beating by the youths and the NSCDC operatives.
Yamu who confirmed that the four NSCDC operatives have been arrested over the matter, assured the family of the victim and the public of proper investigation into the death of the Bolt Driver.
