A man identified as Seidu Jamiu has been allegedly killed by his wife, Omolara Oluwakemi with a pestle over an allegation of infidelity in Akungba-Akoko in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Sources said the incident sent shock waves around the university community as people saw the couple as perfect in their relationship.
According to a resident, the wife was said to have hit the husband with a pestle while the husband was sleeping in their house in the community.
A source said an elder from the Ibaka community of Akungba-Akoko and the Seriki Musumi of the town was called upon to come and see the unconscious Jamiu in the pool of his blood after the wife was alleged to have used a pestle to smash his head while asleep.
A resident, Chief Awesu was quoted to have noted a misunderstanding over infidelity over a side chick between the couple.
The source said the deceased was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. He said the police in Akungba-Akoko had arrested Omolara and the case had been referred to Police headquarters in Akure.
Sources said there were many sympathisers in his house where people described the deceased as a nice person who took care of his wife to the best of his ability to the extent of buying her a car and building a house for the wife.
Although the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the death of Jamiu, she however said the deceased’s wife reported at the police station in the morning that some people killed her husband at midnight on Saturday.
She, however, could not confirm the allegation that the wife murdered the deceased, insisting that the wife was the complainant of the incident.
The police spokesperson noted that no arrest had been made on the matter at the time of speaking with our correspondent.
The PPRO said, “I can’t confirm that the victim’s wife killed him because it was the woman who reported the matter at the police station. We have not made any arrest now but the investigation has begun into the incident “
