Court Sentences 5 Vigilante Members To Death By Hanging In Kano
A Kano State High Court presided over by Chief Judge, Justice Dije Aboki has convicted and sentenced five members of Vigilante group to death by hanging for extra judicial killing against 17-year-old victim, Ahmed Musa.
The five convicted persons include Emmanuel Korau, Elisha Ayuba, Irimiya Timothy, Auwalu Jafar and Mustapha Haladu.
The prosecution lead counsel, Bar. Lamido Abba Sorondinki, said the convicts attached to Sani Abacha Youth Centre committed the offence on 22nd Jan. 2022 at Sabon Titi, Panshekara, Kumbotso LGA where they conspired and attacked the deceased while he was crossing the road.
Sorondinki told the court that the defendants came out from a tricycle and started beating the deceased with a long wooden hard stick (club) in the process the deceased held the stick.
He continued that in the process the first defendant used a long sharp knife and stabbed the deceased on his neck and dragged him on the ground, put him in the said tricycle and took him away.
“As a result the deceased sustained grievous injuries and swollen face”
He said that the victim was later taking to Kuntau Police Division Kano and was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano, where he was confirmed dead by a Doctor.
The Prosecution counsel to further prove his case presented five witnesses to the court.
The prosecution counsel said, the offence contravene the provision of section 97 and 221(b) of the Penal Code.
The Convicts denied committing the offence.
On his side, the defense counsel, Bar. Ahmad Muhammad, led the five convicted persons and one other person additionally.
The defendants earlier in their testimony claimed that they approached the deceased with a view to arrest him because of some complaint lodged against him.
The presiding judge, Justice Aboki upheld that “I have full satisfaction with the evidence adduced by prosecution Lamido Abba Sorondinki.
“The prosecution has presented its case beyond reasonable doubt.
“I hereby sentence the five defendants to death by hanging,” the Chief Judge, Justice Dije Aboki however said.
