Court Bars Soun From Interfering In Egbe Omo Ogbomoso, Upholds Association’s Independence
A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has ordered that Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Paraapo Agbaye should continue to function without interference from any individual or authority.
The court had earlier restrained the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, from dissolving the association’s executive committee and imposing a caretaker leadership on the group.
The dispute followed the monarch’s September 2025 announcement dissolving the executive and appointing Prof. Josiah Ajiboye as acting president to lead a caretaker committee pending fresh elections.
However, the association’s acting president, Alhaji Yusuf Adetayo, alongside Mr. Tolani Balogun and Alhaji Bukola Badmus, challenged the decision in court, arguing that the monarch lacked the legal authority to interfere in the association’s affairs.
The claimants maintained that the body is an independent organisation governed by its constitution and duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
They also sought court orders restraining Ajiboye and the caretaker committee from displacing the acting executive or conducting elections pending the determination of the case.
During proceedings, counsel to the claimants, I.N. Obasan, informed the court that all parties had reached an out-of-court settlement, which was filed on January 28, 2026, and presented for adoption as the court’s final judgment.
In her ruling, Justice N. E. Maha adopted the settlement terms as binding on all parties, ordered that no one should interfere in the association’s affairs and directed each party to bear its own legal costs.
