Ramadan/Lent: Adeleke Reduces Working Hours For Osun Public Servants
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved a reduction in official working hours for public servants in the state in observance of the Ramadan and Lenten fasting periods.
The governor said the adjustment forms part of measures to support workers during the spiritual season and enhance their welfare while observing the fast.
A circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service and signed by Elder Ayanleye Aina, dated February 19, 2026, and titled ‘Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods,’ the new schedule takes effect from Thursday, February 19, 2026.
The circular stated that public servants are to close work at 2.00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and 1.00 p.m. on Fridays throughout the fasting period.
It explained that the gesture is intended to allow workers adequate time for prayers and reflection, particularly as the state prepares for a gubernatorial election later in the year.
However, personnel on essential duties, especially medical workers, are exempted, in view of the critical nature of their services.
The directive further urged political office holders, accounting officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, heads of non-ministerial agencies, as well as local government and local council development authorities to ensure full compliance and wide dissemination of the circular.
