Osun APC Alleges Adeleke’s Planned Olaiya Flyover Rehabilitation Is Vote-Buying Strategy

The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has criticized the state government’s proposed rehabilitation of the Olaiya Flyover in Osogbo, alleging that the move is aimed at creating a channel to divert public funds for vote-buying ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The allegation follows Governor Ademola Adeleke’s directive to the Ministry of Works to immediately rehabilitate the bridge after expressing concern over its condition during an inspection visit on Sunday.

In a statement issued by the Head of the APC Campaign Council’s Media and Publicity Committee, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the opposition described the planned rehabilitation as unnecessary, insisting that the flyover, constructed during the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, remains structurally sound.

According to the APC, the bridge continues to maintain its engineering integrity despite what it described as repeated attempts by the Adeleke administration to discredit one of the previous government’s legacy projects.

The council argued that embarking on rehabilitation works on a bridge it considers fit for public use would amount to a waste of public resources and alleged that the exercise was intended to generate funds for vote-buying in the run-up to the governorship poll.

The statement also defended the quality of the flyover’s construction, noting that the project was executed by Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd under the supervision of COREN-certified engineers, with professional oversight by Advanced Engineering Consultants (AEC).

It added that comprehensive soil and material tests were conducted before the project was completed.
The APC further accused the Adeleke administration of awarding road contracts to firms it claimed lacked the requisite engineering expertise, contrasting the approach with that of the Oyetola administration, which it said prioritized engineering standards and public safety.

The campaign council urged the state government to abandon what it described as efforts to undermine the legacy of the immediate past administration, maintaining that the Olaiya Flyover remains safe for motorists and does not require rehabilitation.

It also called for accountability in the management of public resources, alleging that government officials would eventually be required to account for their stewardship before anti-corruption agencies and the people of the state.

As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had not officially responded to the APC’s latest allegations. However, Governor Adeleke had earlier maintained that the proposed rehabilitation was part of his administration’s commitment to maintaining public infrastructure, stressing that “government is a continuum” and that projects inherited from previous administrations should be properly maintained.
