Adeleke Orders Immediate Rehabilitation Of Olaiya Bridge Ahead of Okefia Flyover Commissioning

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo, citing the need to restore the structure ahead of the commissioning of the newly completed Okefia Flyover Bridge.

The governor gave the directive on Sunday during an inspection visit to the bridge, where he expressed concern over its deteriorating condition and instructed the Ministry of Works to commence urgent remedial works.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke ordered the ministry to assess the structural condition of the bridge, carry out necessary repairs, clean the facility, and address any identified defects to ensure it complements the recently completed Okefia and Lameco flyover bridges.

“The Ministry of Works should immediately act on this Olaiya Bridge. Let us clean it up. It is a state asset, and we must ensure its proper maintenance. This should be done before we commission the Okefia Bridge,” the governor was quoted as saying.

Adeleke stressed that government is a continuum, noting that his administration remains committed not only to completing inherited projects but also to preserving public infrastructure delivered by previous administrations.

“I believe government is a continuum. All inherited projects are being completed by our government, and all completed projects by previous administrations must be appropriately maintained,” he added.

The rehabilitation, according to the governor, forms part of his administration’s commitment to the maintenance of public infrastructure and the improvement of the state’s road network.
